Today is small business Saturday, a day dedicated to celebrating small business and communities throughout the country, and Citizen Salmon would like to encourage everyone to do some holiday shopping this weekend with your small local merchants.
As a seafood company, Citizen Salmon Alaska is about as small as you can get! I am owner, operator and sole proprietor of our little fish mongering company, which started 3 years ago here in our tiny town of Anchor Point, Alaska. Working for years as a volunteer to educate about salmon ecosystems, a chef at a fish camp and a crew member on a salmon fishing boat, solidified in me the importance of supporting our local fishing families, while increasing access to this amazing, sustainable seafood. I am a real “boots on the ground” operator, spending most of my summer with my baby girl Matilda walking the docks and beaches, talking to fisherman and precuring the freshest fish available anywhere. The relationships I build with our small boat fishermen allows us to secure the worlds best seafood while helping their family businesses to thrive. With the support of my family and my community we have seen our tiny business grow, sharing our love of this delicious seafood with other families all over the US.
We challenge all our Citizens today to use the power of your holiday shopping dollars to invest in the health of a small family businesses.
